Abstract

his study investigates the growth models of the Saddled Seabream, Oblada melanurus, found throughout the Aegean Sea. Between March 2021 and February 2022, specimens were collected monthly using trammel nets operated by artisanal fishing vessels commonly used in İzmir Bay, which is located in the central Aegean Sea of Türkiye. A total of 464 specimens were examined, including 312 females and 113 males. The von Bertalanffy growth function (VBGF), Gompertz growth function (GGF), and Robertson growth function (RGF) were the three growth models that were tested for both sexes and each sex. However, none of these models showed a decisive superiority [Akaike’s weight (wi) > 0.9] for any group. Accordingly, the saddled seabream growth was assessed for the first time by model-averaged multi-model inference
(MMI). As a result, the Gompertz growth model TLt = TL e(-e(cg (Kg-t0))) provided the best fit for females and males, as well as both sexes for this species.
