Abstract

Atypophthalmus (Atypophthalmus) umbratus (Diptera: Tipuloidea), a non-native species in Europe, is reported for the second time from Romania, where it was reared from two ornamental rose plants (Rosa sp.) imported from the Netherlands. Some specimens were COI barcoded to provide a genetic reference for future DNA-based analyses investigating its distribution across Europe and not only. Furthermore, based on genetic similarities between our Romanian specimens and DNA sequences of unidentified crane fly species available in GenBank we suggest that this species could also be present in Australia, China and Pakistan.
